Maid of Honor 101

 Source

Never been a Maid/Matron of Honor (MOH) or perhaps you have been one before, but still aren’t quite sure what it’s about? If YES, this quick guide is for you. (For brides-to-be, this is useful for your too. Pass it along to your to MOH.)

Maid of Honor, you have been chosen by the bride, most likely, because she considers you her closest friend and confidant and that she knows you will be at her side every step of the way. So, you have to reassure the bride often that you are there for her in any way possible, whether it’s emotionally or physically present to run errands, etc. Be as helpful as you comfortably can.

Here are a few of the MOH’s responsibilities:

Coordinate the bridesmaids. This could include keeping them informed about fittings, pre-wedding parties, or anything else they need to know.

Bridal shower & Bachelorette party. You will host and plan the bridal shower and bachelorette party with the help of the bridesmaids. This includes planning, setting up, and splitting the costs. You should also attend both the bridal shower and bachelorette party as it is an honor for you to be there and hurtful if you cannot attend unless you have good reason.

Wedding dress shopping. Go with the bride when she is shopping for her wedding dress as well as the Bridesmaid Dresses. It is very important to help make sure the dresses are ordered and arrive in enough time for alterations! It is helpful for you to attend the multiple fittings in giving your friend some feedback in how the dress looks and fits.

Maintaining and assisting the bride. Before the ceremony, make sure the bride is properly hydrated and eats something light. Be sure to make sure her wedding dress train is always adjusted in a flattering way at appropriate point in ceremony, if needed. Also, hold the bride’s bouquet during the exchanging of vows and then give it back to her as she and her new husband take their first steps together as a newlywed. Help her keep her makeup looking fresh and her hair properly coifed during the entire affair – especially during wedding photos.
