Weekend Wedding Warrior has dedicated itself to giving brides and grooms a custom wedding experience that is not only focused on the couple but also an unforgettable experience for the guests. They have been involved with planning both intimate affairs and huge wedding celebrations. The Louisville Wedding Blog recently had the opportunity to interview Maggie Heely. A passionate wedding planner, she is the owner and lead coordinator of Weekend Wedding Warrior LLC. Today, Maggie shares many valuable hints, tips and advice for brides planning their wedding.

1. Tell us about yourself and the Wedding Weekend Warrior.
My name is Maggie Heely and I am the Owner and Lead Coordinator on Weekend Wedding Warrior, LLC. I moved to Louisville from New York State in November 2009 because my husband is in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Knox. When we moved here I realized that Louisville was saturated with wonderful full-service wedding planners, but no one wanted to do what brides think of as "day-of". Organization and event management are my strengths, so it was natural for me to start a company doing just wedding coordination. Also, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Masters of Science from Northwestern University. I find that helping couples have a stress-free wedding day helps their marriage just as just as counseling can.

2. What makes a wedding by the Wedding Weekend Warrior unique and special?
We are the only company in the State of Kentucky that specializes in Wedding Day Coordination. We do not do any full-service wedding planning. We are not wedding planners, we are wedding coordinators. We bridge the gap between having an expensive full-service planner and the other extreme is to have you and your family doing all the work on the wedding day. We provide a much needed service to brides who want to plan their own wedding, but they don't want themselves or their family members to work their wedding. You plan it and we'll make it happen! We also believe that we are special because we are the only "wedding planning/coordinating" company in the state to receive the 2012 Best of The Knot award. This award is based solely on client reviews and we are honored to be reviewed so highly!

3. What do you find special about weddings in Louisville and/or the Kentuckiana area?
There are so many unique things about this area that you can incorporate in your wedding. I think every wedding that has a sizable amount of out of town guests needs to have a bourbon tasting bar or mini hot browns...something that screams "Kentucky"! There are so many resources here; great food, horses, farms, ballrooms, bourbon, wine, local initiative, art museums...if you like it Kentucky has it.

4. Any interesting trends in the wedding industry that you love or conversely would love to see brides leave behind?
I'm not big on trends. I think that your wedding should be about you and your fiancĂ©. People get too caught up in what they think they should have they forget to think about what they really want. Your wedding should reflect you as a couple and have as many personal touches as possible. If you don't want a cake, fine! If you're vegan and want a completely vegan menu, great!

5. What are some general tips or advice you often give to your clients to help them in their planning?
If someone isn't close enough to you that you'd buy them dinner on a random Tuesday, then why would you want to buy them dinner on one of the most important days of your life?! Limit your guest list to people you love and people who love you. Also, remember why you are doing this...to get married! Nothing else really matters except the lifetime commitment you are making. Make sure your priorities are straight and everything else will fall into place.

6. What do you feel are the most important vendors to spend the wedding budget on when it comes to allocating wedding funds?
This is a tough question because I truly believe that you get what you pay for in terms of vendors. I think the biggest regret that people have is skimping on photography, videography, and coordination. Those images are your only concrete memory of that day and they should be stunning...not a few images, but all of them. Personally, my biggest regret from my wedding was not hiring a videographer. I wish I could hear my husband speak his vows to me again and I wish our future children would be able to see that. Also, though I am biased, I think coordination should not be an option, but a necessity. You are spending so much time and money on one day, but if you or your family/friends can't enjoy it because they are stressed or working then what is the point?!

7. Often couples feel they can plan their wedding on their own or do not want to spend part of their wedding budget on an event planner, what would you say to those couples out there?
I say, "Right On!". I think that couples can plan their own wedding, but they need a professional to put it all together to make sure everything runs smoothly. Wedding planners are absolutely wonderful if you can afford them and if you don't have time or energy to plan your own wedding. However, I think the majority of modern brides want to have their hands in all the details and the decision making, but ultimately they want to be a guest at their own wedding as well.
