Planning a Kentucky Derby Wedding: Part 3 – Wedding Decorations

Rose-Covered Horseshoe

In planning you wedding with a derby theme, a lot of couples usually stick with the horse racing theme. You can include horses and other related items in their various forms like a horseshoe covered in roses, racehorse or jockey ice sculpture or a chocolate horse poured from a mold. Also, since the Derby is known as the “Run for the Roses”, be sure to display bouquets and vases of roses, and in the bouquets and boutonnieres as well. You can incorporate both the horses and roses into your table centerpieces. As part of this tradition, women wear hats on Derby Day (the bigger and more embellished the better), while men wear seersuckers attires. You can actually incorporated hats as centerpieces too. Overall, the derby theme is a mix of southern style in a country setting. Be sure to have mint juleps and bourbon on hand. Coming soon on my next is more of food and drinks for this theme. Horses, roses, mint juleps, cocktail dresses, high heels and fabulous big hats are key decoration for this wedding theme. What could be more creative and bigger than a Kentucky- Derby-inspired wedding? Here are a few photos for more inspiration.

  1. On wedding day, I had a complimentary attendant, who was helpful in getting my husband and myself champagne, and she also made sure that we were eating.
