{Louisville Wedding Venues} Outdoor Wedding Venues in Louisville

An outdoor wedding in Louisville is a popular choice of couples during the warm weather in the spring and summer season. This city features several historic homes with outdoor gardens and courtyards for wedding receptions and wedding ceremonies. A few Louisville outdoor wedding venues include Historic Locust Grove, Thomas Edison House, Brennan House and Gingerwoods. Most of these wedding venues provide tables, chairs and catering services.

The Brennan House is a Victorian mansion located in the Louisville's downtown district. This Louisville wedding venue features an outdoor garden area for wedding ceremonies or receptions. The garden is able to accommodate 150 people for receptions. The Brennan House supplies chairs and tables for 75 people. If more than 50 people are attending the reception, a tent will be required (according to the Brennan House website). Catering is available from the house's staff or the wedding party can choose one of their own, but not required. The Brennan House only permits licensed bartenders to serve alcohol on the house's property.

Built in the mid-19th century, the historic Thomas Edison features an outdoor courtyard, landscaped perennial gardens and a fountain for small wedding receptions. The courtyard accommodates up to 50 people and offers five-hour time slots for receptions. The Thomas Edison House can supply the tables and chairs, but the wedding party is responsible for the furnishings such as dinnerware, tablecloths, and tents for the garden. The wedding venue does not offer catering services, but they do have a roll of approved caterers in mind.

The Gardens of Ray Eden is a 15-acre venue situated in Eastern Jefferson County in Louisville Kentucky. This outdoor wedding venue hosts ceremonies and receptions in a forested surrounding and features a beautiful lake area and a wide variety of garden areas. The venue can accommodate up to 475 guests. They have a 40-foot-by-80-foot pergola, or a lattice structure, which is used if it rains during the reception (at an extra charge). You may need to provide your own table, chairs, table cloths, dance floor (if needed), florists and caterer. They will gladly provide you a list of rental facilities and caterers upon request. The Gardens at Ray Eden offer a nice large dressing room for the bride and bridesmaids, as well as an indoor kitchenette and restroom facilities for wedding guests.

Gingerwoods is a newly-renovated event hall featuring an outdoor terrace for wedding reception with a rustic elegance and pastoral backdrop that creates a comfortable ambiance making it a perfect choice for a Louisville outdoor wedding venue. It is located in Prospect, a northeastern suburb in the Greater Louisville area. This event venue was built in the mid-19th century and has an adjacent chapel (Greencastle Baptist Church) for the ceremony. Gingerwoods has a 3,000 square foot event space that can accommodate up to 180 of your guests seated. With a 2,400 square foot deck, overlooking acres of preserved land, one could also utilize the East Lawn, when additional space is needed. Gingerwoods’ terrace offers guests scenic views of the pastoral horse ranch approximately 200 yards from the hall. The event venue supplies table and chairs, but does not offer catering. Though, they will gladly assist and refer you to some of their approved caterers.

The Whitehall Mansion is a beautifully restored, 19th century antebellum house and garden wedding venue in Louisville. This mansion offers grandeur, grace and style, making it a perfect setting for your ceremony and reception. The spacious grounds and gardens may be rented for an elegant garden wedding. The Formal Garden is a romantic setting for a garden wedding and can seat approximately 200 guests for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The Garden Terrace, adjacent to the Formal Garden, is both a beautiful and convenient surface for receptions, whether open-air or tented, and can even be the setting for a wedding ceremony. It can seat approximately 350 wedding guests for an open-air or tented reception. Convenient outdoor restroom facilities, fully air-conditioned and heated, are available to guests as part of the rental of the grounds and gardens. As for catering, there is a list of approved caterers for you to choose from. Bands and DJs are permitted outside the Whitehall mansion but must be approved in writing by Whitehall.

Considered a Historic Landmark on 55-acre grounds of gardens, historic stone walls, fields and woods, Locust Grove is a great venue for a Louisville outdoor Wedding. It welcomes guests to plan outdoor weddings on its grounds but there are some restrictions that do apply. The mansion and other restored buildings are never rented out but weddings may take place on the porch steps. Receptions are limited to the garden areas, the field, and the Visitor Center as long as care is taken not to damage the area. There are also some limitations on decorating, music, food, event timing. etc. The Audubon Room in the Visitors' Center holds approximately 200 people standing; seating depends on how tables and chairs are arranged and how much space is allotted for food service and dance floors. They have tables and chairs that you are welcome to use. There are currently 100 chairs and a number of tables, including two 36" squares; fourteen 8', and four 6' rectangles. The wedding may use any caterer they like.

DuPont Mansion is a beautifully restored mansion. It features carved Italian marble fireplaces, hardwood floors, antique furnishings, crystal chandeliers and charm galore. It has a banquet style dining room, spacious rooms and common areas. This location is able to offer rentals for bridal luncheons, showers, and weddings. You can host your wedding party for up to 50 guests in the outdoor formal gardens or the opulent parlor of the 125 year old mansion. All tables, chairs, linens, crystal, china & silver are provided.  You'll have use of the common areas and the gardens of the Mansion for the entire wedding. If you plan to have your wedding ceremony here, a professional harpist will perform during your ceremony and they will provide a string or jazz trio that can provide a variety of vocals, classical, popular/modern music for light dancing.

Situated on Main Street between 4th and 6th Street, Belvedere has spectacular views of the downtown skyline and the Ohio River. It’s close to a few of Louisville downtown attractions like the Kentucky Center, and Galt House Hotel and Suites. The Belvedere can easily accommodate large festivals as well as intimate events like weddings. The venue features a large lawn area, a shady tree grove, a large fountain, and shady pavilions. Situated on a 300-acre historic site in Louisville and overlooking the Ohio River, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing is a wonderful venue for both outdoor and indoor weddings. You can host your wedding in three areas of the venue, the Riverside Visitors Center, the open-air pavilion and the grounds. The Visitors Center has a capacity for 200 people in its large carpeted auditorium. Rental of the Visitors Center includes use of a catering kitchen, cloakroom, restrooms, 120 chairs, 20 rectangular tables and/or 12 round tables.  Riverside's open-air pavilion offers you to enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting at Riverside while under shelter. The pavilion has a capacity for 200 people standing and features an outdoor fireplace and additional restrooms. For an additional rental fee, Riverside also makes its grounds available to parties renting its Visitors Center.  For catering, you may use one from their list of approved caterers.

The Peterson-Dumesnil House is a Victorian-Italianate house in the Crescent Hill neighborhood of Louisville. This is one of the remaining large country estates built in the late 19th century to the east of the city. You can rent out both the house and the grounds. This wedding venue is perfect for a smaller outdoor wedding & reception.

E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park is one of 52 Kentucky State Parks and a recent addition to the park was the Sawyer Hayes Community Center. The community center features a reception hall that can seat up to 250 guests, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the woods, a catering kitchen, front lodge area for relaxing near a large fireplace, and a spacious trellised outdoor terrace that overlooks the natural forested landscape of the park. When choosing this venue, you are welcome to choose the caterer of your choice This is another great choice for a Louisville outdoor wedding.

The Olmsted is a definite popular spot for a wedding reception in Louisville. It’s park-like grounds of the Masonic Homes in the Saint Matthews/Crescent Hill neighborhoods is a multiple Best of Louisville award winning site. The wedding facility offers both indoor and outdoor space, catering, and even has a dance floor. This historic building offers magnificent architectural details. There are several park-like areas within the facility which are great for pre-nuptial and nuptial photos. Trees line the paved driveways and there are two large open grass areas in the center of the complex. If you plan to have the your wedding in the Olmstead, you have the permission to use the entire facility. Other than the dining and reception area in the building, there is approximately 5 acres of flat landscaped grounds for an outdoor reception and ceremony for your use.

Garden Court is a seminary in Louisville, located in the old part of St. Matthews. Situated on a fourteen-acre estate, it overlooks Cherokee Park and features formal gardens, colonnade, pool and arbores created by The Olmstead Brothers, son and stepson of Frederick Law Olmstead. This is a great wedding venue on spring, summer and fall seasons. The exterior grounds can accommodate up to 400 grounds seated.

The Water Tower is home of Louisville's leading contemporary art center, the Louisville Visual Art Association and a historic landmark on the bank of the Ohio River. The 169-foot standpipe tower is designed in a Greek Revival style. The spacious facility provides an elegant setting for parties, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, business meetings or an event of your own design. Pinecrest Gardens offers a beautiful garden backdrop to those who wish to marry outdoors. The Sculpture Garden is like an ‘outdoor cathedral’, wherein you can be wed under towering 200 year old trees. This is a favorite location for a tent, or, higher on the hill, where tables can be set up inside the tent for your reception. If you choose this venue, the wedding package includes exclusive use of the grounds the day of your wedding and the use of Pinecrest Cottage for your wedding night. The Louisville Zoological Garden is a 135-acre zoo in Louisville, situated in the city's Poplar Level neighborhood. It currently exhibits over 1,300 animals in naturalistic and mixed animal settings representing both geographical areas and biomes or habitats.
